About the Knooks Project

What if we set a goal to get outside?

What if we started to connect to our outdoor places so much that we began to name them?

What if we wanted to document and share what we are learning with our Families and Community?

What if technology is not all evil, but is a powerful tool for advocacy?

What if?

The Knooks Project began with a simple objective: Be outside.

Initially, we went on local walks, with stops in my backyard. There we planted gardens, flowerbeds, worked in a small greenhouse, and played.

We explored the forests and paths on our school property, and the forests between our homes and school.

Whenever outside, the children would wonder, question, engage and grow their curiosity, and mine.

While the children asked their own questions, I reflected on mine:

How do we best capture the voice of a child?

How do we best honour children as capable and                                    committed citizens?

How do we amplify the voices of our youngest citizens                        so that they feel connected to their families                                                and communities?

This website is not about how to get outside. It is about curating, documenting, and sharing our stories once we are there.
